Cat's Claw(Ranunculus ternatus Thunb.), also known as small buttercup or three-leaf herb, is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Ranunculaceae family. Its tuberous roots are ovoid or fusiform in shape, with firm tips clustered together resembling cat claws. The stems grow to heights of 5-20 centimeters and are sparsely covered with soft hairs. The plant features ternate compound leaves, with some leaves being simple, broadly ovate to rounded-reniform in shape. Stem leaves are smaller, sessile, and three-parted with linear segments. Flowers are solitary and terminal, with sepals that are ovate or broadly ovate. The flowers typically have 5-7 yellow petals (sometimes turning white) that are obovate in shape, along with numerous stamens. The achenes are ovoid and smooth. The flowering period occurs from March to May, followed by fruiting from April to July.
